Blood clots basically are the body’s first aid against bleeding. Blood clot involves the blood turning into a gel-like state and plugging any leaks that form, thus protecting the flow of blood. Smaller vessels that developed a leak inside the body would keep on bleeding if there was no blood clotting. Clotting basically rescues damage, this is healthy clotting. But internal clots can also form and dislodge when normal body systems are disrupted that leads to medical problems. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 50 percent of all blood clots develop "during or soon after a hospital stay or surgery." The main clot diseases involving the veins include Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE). Two major and life-threatening medical events occurring with blood clot formation in the arteries include heart attack and stroke.
The best way to handle out-of-hospital cardiac emergencies is by undergoing training in the life-saving CPR techniques that comprise chest compressions and rescue breaths. Proper application can revive the life of such victims. Undergo training in a certified training center such as the AHA certified CPR Indianapolis. Certified instructors conduct the classes through a series of audio and video lectures and hands-on practice. Here’s some information on an “ACLS class Indianapolis”.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support Classes- It is an advanced course that teaches the importance of team communication and systems for immediate, as well as the post, cardiac arrest care. Managing airways, initiating IV’s, reading ECG’s, and understanding emergency pharmacology is required, that’s why, this course is for advanced healthcare providers like doctors, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, nurse practitioners, etc.
The course fee is $299.
Blood Clot Symptoms- Legs are the most common area for a blood clot to develop. Symptoms pertaining to this include pain, swelling, a warm sensation, tenderness, calf pain when stretching toes upward, a reddish, dusky discoloration.
Blood clot symptoms depend on the area in the body where it occurs:
1. Blood clot in the heart- chest pain and a heaviness in the chest, lightheadedness and breathing difficulty.
2. Blood clot in the brain- intense headache occurring all of a sudden and cognitive changes like difficulty speaking.
3. Abdomen- The symptoms of blood clot in the abdomen include vomiting and severe pain in the area.
Deep Vein Thrombosis Symptoms:
DVT is formation of gel-like clumps of congealed blood in one of the veins, most commonly deep in the leg with the symptoms being swelling, pain, tenderness, skin redness and warmness. These symptoms are in the calf for most DVTs. Diseases like cancer increases the risk of DVT. It happens mostly in people whose blood cannot easily get back to the heart because of difficulty in movement and patients with damaged vein linings because of major muscle trauma. The other risk factors are obesity, smoking, dehydration, pregnancy and previous clots.
Pulmonary Embolism (PE):
When blood clot is pushed along the bloodstream and lodges in the lungs, it gives rise to a pulmonary embolism which is a blocked artery in the chest with some symptoms being shortness of breath and pain when breathing deeply, blood when coughing and fast breathing and a fast heart rate. These are serious symptoms and would require urgent medical attention. Some other PE symptoms include sweating, anxiety and collapsing with a light head or fainting.
