An arrhythmia, also referred to as an abnormal heart rhythm, is when there is a problem with the heart's rhythm, or it beats irregularly. Sinus arrhythmia is one type of arrhythmia. It is an abnormal heart rhythm that goes by the name of Ventricular Fibrillation which is the leading cause of occurrence of a cardiac arrest.

A cardiac arrest is a life-threatening emergency and a victim would require immediate treatment for survival. The only form of appropriate treatment is proper application of the life-saving CPR techniques that comprise chest compressions and rescue breaths. Proper application of the techniques can restore the life of a victim involved in a cardiac emergency. BLS Training Classes- The Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider course is designed to prepare individuals working in healthcare, and those going to school who are planning a career in healthcare. Students will learn how to provide chest compressions, deliver rescue breaths, operate an AED, and many other skills necessary to treat cardiac and respiratory emergencies.

Types of Sinus Arrhythmias:
Sinus arrhythmia relates to the sinoatrial or sinus node in the heart which is located in the upper chamber on the right side of the organ, which is called the right atrium. It is also known as the organ’s natural “pacemaker” which means it is responsible for the rhythm of a person's heartbeats. Sinus arrhythmia means there is an irregularity in the heart rhythm, originating at the sinus node with their being two types:

1.      Sinus tachycardia, which is a faster ticker rate, beating greater than 100 beats per minute.
2.      Sinus bradycardia, which is when the rate beats slower or less than 60 beats per minute.

Risk Factors and Causes:
It is common in children and sometimes found in adults as well. As per researchers, respiratory sinus arrhythmia (It occurs when a person's heart rate relates to their breathing cycle, it is not harmful) may occur to increase efficiency or allow the ticker to do less work while maintaining the correct levels of blood gases.

Diagnosis:
Healthcare providers take an electrical recording of the ticker rhythm, using a machine called an electrocardiogram which is the most common way to diagnose arrhythmia. The heart rate per minute is usually normal in case of respiratory sinus arrhythmia. But, the time between each beat may vary. 

Other Irregular Rhythms:
Atrial fibrillation: The ticker beats irregularly due to conduction abnormalities.

Supraventricular tachycardia: The heart rate is abnormally fast when at rest.

Heart block: When the organ beats more slowly, which may cause a person to collapse.

Ventricular fibrillation: The organ has a disorganized rhythm that leads to loss of consciousness and death if not treated.

Some of the risk factors of arrhythmias are:
1.      Consumption of alcohol
2.      tobacco use
3.      excessive exercise
4.      caffeine consumption
5.      certain medications and recreational drugs
6.      being overweight
7.      having a viral illness
8.      previous myocardial infarction or heart failure
