Cardiac
arrest is one of the leading causes of death in the world. A significant number
of cardiac arrests occur in people with no risk factors. During a cardiac
arrest, the breathing and heartbeat of the person stops. Providing immediate
help can go a long way when it comes to saving the life of a person. With
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), the chances of survival of the person can
be significantly increased. The CPR techniques comprise chest compressions and
rescue breaths. Proper administration of the techniques can restart the
breathing of a person who’s suffered the cardiac arrest.
Always train
in an accredited training center for learning the life-saving CPR techniques
such as the AHA accredited CPR Indianapolis where both theoretical and
practical training are imparted by certified instructors. It is performed with
alternating chest compressions with mouth-to-mouth breathing. It’s a simple
technique that can be easily learned. There are courses for both healthcare as
well as non-healthcare providers. Today, we are specifically going to focus on
a BLS class Indianapolis.

Performing CPR on adults:
First and
foremost, you need to know about the causes of cardiac arrest which include
drug overdose, excessive bleeding, heart disease like heart attack or abnormal
heart rhythm (you can keep heart disease at bay by keeping the cholesterol and
high blood pressure in check), infection in the bloodstream (sepsis),
near-drowning, injuries and accidents and stroke.
AHA’s
recommendation for
Untrained Individuals- Go for hands-only CPR
(Uninterrupted 100 chest compressions per minute). Do not try rescue breathing.
Trained Individuals- Begin chest compressions instead of
checking the airway and giving rescue breathing in the beginning. Begin CPR
with 30 chest compressions.
Trained, but Rusty- Perform about 100 chest
compressions per minute.
The AHA has
given the acronym CAB to help people remember the order to administer the steps
of CPR:
1. Circulation-
Restore blood circulation with chest compressions.
2. Airway- Clear
the airway.
3. Breathing-
Breathe for the person.
